Carbon project design. In order for projects to successfully complete the carbon development cycle, resulting in tradable certified or verified emission reductions, the following steps are undertaken:

Optionally: development of a Project Identification Note (PIN), defining the eligibility of a project against carbon certification criteria, sustainability, ecological and economical elements

Development of a Project Design Document (PDD) in which the project details are defined, additionality is proven. the baseline methodology is described, and the monitoring plan is revealed, all according to the carbon certification criteria and protocols.

Project validation. After defining the carbon project design the PDD is submitted to a certification body for validation. Once validated the project has proven its compliance with a carbon standard. Monitoring takes place to measure the project's results in terms of tonnes of carbon sequestration or avoided emissions. The monitoring results are submitted to a certification body for verification.

Project registration. The last step in the carbon development process is to have the project registered by the applicable carbon standard (CDM, VCS, CCB), after which the carbon credits (VERs/CERs) are issued.
